Objetivos

It is intended that after the attendance of this course unit, students are able to: (i) solve problems involving
the equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies, with and without friction; (ii) obtain mass centre position and
the moment of inertia; (iii) solve problems to obtain internal forces in linear elements of structures.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

With the syllabus taught at the chapters 1 and 2 the students acquire the ability to solve problems
involving the equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies without friction.
With the syllabus taught at the chapter 3 the students acquire the ability to obtain the mass centre position
and the moment of inertia. With the syllabus taught in chapter 4, students acquire the ability to solve problems for linear internal forces in elements of structures
With the syllabus taught at the chapter 5 the students acquire the ability to solve problems involving the
concept of friction.

3. Distributed forces: Centroid, static moments and moments of inertia.
4. Analysis of structures: trusses, simple structures, machines
5. Dry friction. Square screw thread, axis, discs.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The theoretical component of the program will be taught in the theoretical and practical lessons,
accompanied, whenever possible, by the resolution of practical examples. In the practical component will
be done the accompaniment of the students in the resolution of the proposed practical examples.
The teaching methods include theoretical and practical classes. The theoretical component of lectures use
a strategy of exposure in the classroom with the aim of passing concepts, definitions and mechanisms of
interpretation of the problems.
it is intended to transmit to the students the knowledge to the pursuit of the curricular unit objectives. The
teaching methods also include a practical component of lectures that use a strategy to solve problems,
individually or in groups of students, with the monitoring of the teacher. it is intended that the student
acquires the competence to understand, describe and relate the knowledge.
The system of continuum evaluation through the tests has been established for a assessment monitored
throughout the semester of the acquired competencies. The evaluation by final examination allows to
measure if the competencies of knowledge integration were achieved.
