Objetivos

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1) To know the principles and procedures of measurement of the main electrical quantities (voltage, current, resistance, power and energy);
2) Understand the principle of operation of the main instruments of measurement of electrical quantities (analog and digital multimeters, analog and digital oscilloscopes, wattmeters and energy meters);
3) Connect and correctly operate the main measuring instruments of electrical quantities.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

Main learning outcomes and skills:
1. Diagnose and repair faults in direct current and alternating current electrical circuits.
2. Execute and interpret the result of measurements of electrical quantities in DC and alternating current circuits.

Modo de trabalho

Presencial

Pré-requisitos (conhecimentos prévios) e co-requisitos (conhecimentos simultâneos)

Frequency and passing in this discipline assumes that students have basic knowledge of electrical engineering.
(Omitted issues respect the legal legislation in force and the internal rules and regulations of the management bodies of ESTSetúbal / IPS).

Programa

Chapter 1. Fundamentals of Measurement: introduction; international metrology vocabulary; errors (accuracy of analog and digital instruments, zero mismatch, parallax error, limited bandwidth, significant digits); standards of measurement.
Chapter 2. Instruments Analog Indicators: introduction; moving frame instrument (ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, use of alternating rectifiers); electrodynamic instrument (ammeter, voltmeter and wattmeter); Thermal insulation.
Chapter 3. Digital Multimeter: Introduction; voltage, current and resistance measurements; A / D conversion.
Chapter 4. Oscilloscope: introduction; main commands; principle of operation of the analog oscilloscope; operating principle of the digital oscilloscope by sampling; oscilloscope connection (probes and earthing); measurement techniques.
Chapter 5. Electrical Measurements: procedures for measuring voltage, current, resistance (4-wire resistance, insulation resistance and earth resistance), power (Aron method) and energy; extension of measurement scope.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The teaching methodology is based on theoretical-practical classes used to expose the syllabus content and to solve practical problems demonstrating the given subject.
Some demonstrations and laboratory classes are planned for students to perform some assemblies with the measuring instruments, namely analog and digital multimeters, signal generators and oscilloscopes.
Students will take work to do at home, in the form of a series of problems, to keep a permanent follow up with the discipline and to strengthen their autonomous work capacity.

Assessment Methodology

Assessment Modes
The achievement of this course can be obtained through two assessment methods: continuous assessment or exam assessment.

Continuous evaluation
Continuous assessment includes the completion of 2 tests with a weight of 50% each one. Tests are solved by students individually, without consultation, and during class time. Access to any of the tests requires attending at least 85% of classes. The minimum grade in the continuous assessment by tests is 8 points in each test.

After the end of the academic period there is a recovery period for continuous assessment and an exam period with a single call. The recovery of the continuous assessment is not used to improve the grade and the student only accesses the recovery if he has obtained a grade lower than 10, in which case he can improve only the grade of one of the two tests.

Exam assessment
Students who choose not to take the continuous assessment, or who, having opted for it, have not been approved, may take the exam. The exam is solved by the students individually, without consultation, in the room and on the date indicated by the Pedagogical Council

* Access to the continuous assessment written test requires attendance of at least 85% of classes.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

The final grade is calculated according to the following formula:
NF=EF;
EF- average grade of the 2 tests or grade in the final exam;
In the case of exam evaluation, the final grade corresponds to the classification obtained in this test.
Improved distributed final classification
The student can improve his final grade obtained by continuous assessment by taking the exam.

Melhoria de classificação

The student can improve his final grade obtained by continuous assessment by taking the exam.
