Objetivos

Know

  • Reflect on the role of Information Systems in the management and development of organizations.

  • Identify and define the fundamental elements of an architectural approach to information systems, including hardware, software, data, and processes.

  • Recognise the different categories of enterprise information systems, such as transactional systems, decision support systems, and enterprise management systems.

Understand

  • Describe the role of enterprise information systems in the operation and management of organizations based on the three pillars of digital transformation (Technology, Processes, People).

  • Understand the benefits and challenges associated with using Information Systems in companies.

Apply

  • Model business processes for an enterprise context or specific case study, using BPMN techniques to develop a coherent view of the information flow associated with the business scenarios under analysis.

  • Gather functional and non-functional requirements and specify the domain model underlying a concrete need in terms of the computerisation of a service or organisational process.

  • Use tools and techniques for business process modeling and UML modeling (class diagram).

Analyse

  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and select enterprise information systems appropriate to the needs and objectives of a specific company.

  • Establish relationships between the informational artefacts that characterise an information system to ensure traceability and verifiability of technical accuracy.

Evaluate

  • Assess the impacts of technological advances, such as artificial intelligence and big data analytics, on enterprise information systems aligned with business strategy.

  • Conduct a critical analysis and propose improvements to optimise the modeling of organisational processes, considering factors such as performance, security, and usability.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

The aim is to equip the student with basic knowledge in the analysis and specification of information systems, enabling them to identify the essential informational artefacts needed to develop a project in the field of information systems. The student should possess a critical and argumentative mindset to justify decisions regarding the identification of actors, modelling of scenarios related to business processes, and defining data structures for recording relevant information. Furthermore, the student should develop strategies to conceptualise the architecture of the information system supporting the business model under analysis.

Working Methods:

  • Self-study of materials with exercises to apply knowledge about the components of analysis and specification of an information system.
  • Group work with the definition of roles and responsibilities in the creation of informational artefacts that substantiate the scope of the project.

Modo de trabalho

Presencial

Pré-requisitos (conhecimentos prévios) e co-requisitos (conhecimentos simultâneos)

Tipo de avaliação

Evaluation with final exam

Componentes de Avaliação

Designation Peso (%)
Exame 100,00
Total: 100,00

Componentes de Ocupação

Designation Tempo (Horas)
Estudo autónomo 123,00
Frequência das aulas 66,00
Total: 189,00

Obtenção de frequência

  • Project component (60%) - carried out in groups of 3 to 4 students

    • Presentation and discussion in class (Analysis of progress/results achieved)

    • Intermediate presentations (e.g. 10-minute Pitch)

  • Theoretical component (40%) - mini-tests to assess knowledge (max. 4 mini-tests)

  • Students with participation in practical classes ≥ 75%, roll call in laboratory classes

  • The student is exempt from the final exam and thus approved if they obtain an overall final mark of more than 9.5 and if they obtain a mark of less than 9.5 in either of the two assessment elements.

  •  The final exam will be taken by students who have opted for this system or those who have failed the continuous assessment. In the exam, the student must take a written test (theoretical component), and if they obtain a mark of less than 9.5 in the project component, they may submit an improvement to the same project.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

Final Grade = 40% TP + 60% P

  •  TP - In-person test
  • P - Project
