Goals
- To acquire knowledge about biodiversity and nature conservation.
- To understand how studies are carried out in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems.
- To acquire knowledge about the biogeography of terrestrial and freshwater flora and fauna.
- To understand how to protect species, habitats, and nature conservation.
Skills
- To participate in teams to assess biodiversity at a spatial and temporal level.
- To assess how human activities influence biodiversity variability.
- To collaborate in studies and characterization of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
- To identify the different interactions between living beings at the behavioral level, eating and reproductive habits to study and manage ecosystems.
- To participate in teams to establish management and nature conservation strategies to preserve biodiversity.
Practical component of fieldwork
1.Growing land plants; 2. Inventory of green spaces; 3. Spatial analysis of the distribution of lichens in a study area;
4. Identification of pests in terrestrial ecosystems; 5. Analysis of chlorophyll in water.
Expository method through learning methodologies with active student-centred, being privileged the introduction of theoretic concepts in participated face-to-face classes. It seeks to lead the students in this process by guiding them to achieve the learning-objectives proposed.

The assessment of the theoretical-practical component is carried out by continuous assessment through the completion of 2 tests or final exam on the dates provided for in the exam calendar. The practical laboratory component is assessed by carrying out laboratory/field work with oral presentation at the end of the semester.
The final grade (NF) is obtained by weighting:
NF = 65% of the assessment in test or exam + 30% for the practical laboratory/field work component (mandatory) + 5% Attendance to the TP classes
Oral discussion of the practical work delivered through presentation represents 30% in the evaluation.
Both evaluation components will have to be positive, that is, with grades higher than 9.5. Students can take the 2nd test without having a minimum score in the 1st test, repeating, in the 1st exam call, the test with a grade lower than 9.5.
The assessment by examination does not exempt the performance of all the planned laboratory work and its respective evaluation.
There are no tests or special activities. All the work was considered as part of the theoretical and practical evaluation.
There are no internship or project activities. All the work was considered as part of the theoretical and practical evaluation.
Special assessments for students with statutes or justifications follow IPS regulations.
Test improvements can only be performed on the 1st exam call.
Optionally, the grade improvement can be done according to the IPS grade improvement regulation.
