It is intended that the trainee obtains an in-depth knowledge about the various phases of an energy audit, taking into account, among others, measurements of consumption, establish an Energy Rationalization Plan and verify its execution. It is also intended, in accordance with existing standards, in particular ISO 50001, to design and monitor the energy management system in a company
It is intended that the student acquires in-depth knowledge about: types of equipment used in air conditioning and heating installations; renewable energy sources such as biomass and solar energy and renewable energy conversion equipment.
The Curricular Unit (CU) addresses the knowledge about Sustainable Development for definition of business strategies or nations strategies, but also in the application of instruments and evaluation models that allow to classify the sustainability of energy management and environment management. Throughout the CU, the student should be able to: identify the strategic guidelines of the Sustainable Development Policy; establish goals and targets for compliance with these guidelines; plan and monitor integrated actions for energy and environment management that concretize the achievement of goals and objectives; design and apply sustainable development evaluation models, customized to activities and processes.
Provide students with knowledge about energy simulation of buildings using simulation programs, understanding the bases of their calculation algorithms and learn how to use them for different purposes, namely to calculate thermal loads in the design of air conditioning systems, to calculate consumption and studies of energy efficiency measures and for energy certification of buildings.
It is intended that the student acquire a sound knowledge of the Regulation of the Management System of Intensive Energy Consumption and the Regulation of Energy Consumption Management for the Transport Sector.
The UC of Project in Engineering and Energy Management aims at the application of the topics addressed during its training and integration of previously taught knowledge in the course curriculum of the course and experience that the student may have. The skills to be developed include, on the basis of a real case in the industry or service buildings, one or more of the following three components:
- carry out an energy audit, propose improvement measures and integrate them into an Energy Rationalization Plan (in the case of a service building, also to include an energy certification component).
- monitor and validate the implementation of an Energy Rationalization Plan.
- Implement an energy management system in a company.
- carry out an analysis of the technical and economic feasibility of transversal measures to improve energy use.
It is also intended that the student becomes familiar with the methodologies associated with knowledge sharing, such as oral presentations, posters and articles.
